Welcome to Allies at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Allies is a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight organization that believes in the elimination of discrimination in all its forms. Persons of all sexual orientations and cultural backgrounds are welcome. Mission Statement As a student organization, Allies strives to provide a safe and tolerant environment for all members of the UT Martin campus. We welcome and encourage the participation of students, faculty, graduates, and community members of all sexual orientations. As a gay, lesbian, bisexual, & transgender organization, we strive to raise awareness of diversity and hopefully unite our community. Our goal is to prohibit discrimination through understanding and acceptance. By means of several social and political events throughout the school year, we hope to provide group members with a firm support system. Confidentiality Policy Allies is founded on a firm confidentiality policy that strictly prohibits discussion of group membership outside of meetings. Everything that is discussed during our meeting hours is to stay inside of the Allies arena and is not to be shared publicly. Also, the sexual orientation of any members is not to be assumed. This is to protect the privacy and personal lives of those who wish to support us. Bylaws $10 dues are to be paid by active members every semester. The group name "Allies" is not to be used in any setting, publication, or forum without consent of the group itself. Discussion of names or personal information about group members with non-members will not be tolerated. Outside contact between members must be initiated by both parties. All information provided through e-mails and on the YahooGroup is to remain confidential.
