GLBT Safezones Are

Locations usually in or near an institution such as a school or officespace where gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered students can feel safe and accepted. Safezones are usually staffed by faculty members, managers, or counselors that are specially qualified to handle sensitive GLBT issues and individual concerns. Should a GLBT student, employee, or even the peer of a safezone-staffer feel stressed or threatened because of his or her sexual orientation or gender identity, safezones are a place to feel -- well -- safe. Even though safezones may be only office rooms, they are a supportive space and are very conducive to a secure and helpful environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals.
