Students in Free Enterprise

What is SIFE?

The University of Tennessee at Martin's chapter of SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) is an organization within the College of Business and Public Affairs. Begun in the Fall Semester of the 1997 school year, SIFE is open to all students enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Martin who may be interested in advancing the concept of free enterprise in our community.

SIFE consists of a group of students at UT Martin who want to promote Free Enterprise within the community by working with students, merchants, and regular people to promote the advantages we believe come with a free enterprise, free market system.

What do you know about entrepreneurship? Can you teach your parents the best way to utilize the Internet? What can you teach the next generation? Do you want to be your own boss, but think you don't need business contacts or information? Wouldn't you rather make some connections now that will definitely help you later?  If these questions intrigue you, or even if they only nag at you a little bit, then you should consider joining SIFE here at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

SIFE was established by the Sam Walton Fellowship to give students an outlet for teaching others in the community about free enterprise. Students in the SIFE organization create and promote projects to teach youngsters about business. They may perform community service to aid the community in which they live. Maybe they will establish resources to be used by others in the community who may have questions about starting or running a business. The end result is to introduce SIFE members to the world of business. The old saying is as true today as it ever was: The best way to learn is by doing.
